Students complete Regents exams at BOCES
More than 50 students from Dutchess BOCES’s component districts took Regents exams August 16 and 17 at the Alternative High School. Exams included English, algebra I and II, global history, U.S. history and government, geometry, earth science, living environment.
This is one of many services offered by BOCES to high school students during the summer.
The Extended School Year Program (ESY) at Salt Point Center celebrated the end of the summer program on August 11 with students proudly showcasing what they learned through vibrant displays all around the hallways of SPC.
During summer, the Educational Resources (ER) division of Dutchess BOCES has been helping to provide expanded opportunities. Teachers and administrators have taken courses to improve their skillsets. After benefiting from workshops, book readings, and re-certifications, they can bring those skills to the students they serve. One of the best parts of doing it through BOCES, is the flexibility that it gives participants.

Kiesha Tillman, an educator with more than 20 years of experience in the classroom and in administration, has been selected to serve as the new principal at the Dutchess BOCES’ Alternative High School (AHS), effective July 28.
Despite being in a different bustling building, Dutchess BOCES’ Regional Academic Summer School, or RASS, is conducting business as usual.
An organization has awarded a $10,000 grant to Dutchess BOCES to support Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) youth. The grant will be used to help create a safe and welcoming environment and to fund a gay/straight alliance club.
A group of students who are deaf and hard-of-hearing attended a get-together at Dutchess BOCES recently to meet each other, play games, have snacks and to learn more about Deaf culture.
The disco duo McFadden & Whitehead once belted out a tune called “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now” and that was the mantra of the 36 graduates of Dutchess BOCES’ Practical Nursing Program at the Career & Technical Institute.
More than 275 seniors from Dutchess BOCES’ Career & Technical Institute are now on to college, the military or the workforce after the annual recognition ceremony held on June 9 despite the finicky weather.
Eleven students from the Career & Technical Institute (CTI) at Dutchess BOCES are heading to work as soon as they graduate where they will put the skills they learned in their respective courses to good use.
Family, faculty and staff celebrated the students of the Career and Technical Institute June 1 at the annual awards ceremony. Community partners donated more than $8,000 in scholarships and prizes to sweeten the day.
Alyssa Hoag hopes to operate a farm one day and may be on her way to doing so based on her results at the New York State Future Farmers of America Convention in Buffalo on May 18-20.
