GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAMS

SCHOLASTIC BOWL

Scholastic Bowl is designed for students in grades six through eight. Schools send teams of twelve students to the four after school tournaments held at Dutchess Community College. The students exercise their agility in spontaneous problem solving and recall of information in a Quiz Bowl format. Scoring is cumulative for each school during the tournament. Teams change frequently with substitutions and rotations. Emphasis is placed on improvement in problem solving skills and increased knowledge. There are two events in the Fall and two in the Spring.

TEAMWORK COUNTS

Teamwork Counts is a problem solving event designed for fourth grade students. Twenty problem solving stations challenge the students. Emphasis is placed on problem solving processes and cooperative learning. High School students from the participating districts are invited to assist in the facilitation of the event by running the stations.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Model United Nations is an opportunity for ninth and tenth graders to increase their knowledge of world affairs and to develop their negotiating skills in this United Nations simulation. Participating students take the role of delegates representing nations at the United Nations Security Council. Schools send a maximum of 30 students to each event.
