The Dutchess Educational Health Insurance Consortium (DEHIC) provides participating districts with an affordable alternative to the State Health Insurance Program. The Consortium commenced operation in July 1988 with ten districts and an enrollment of appoximately 2,400 and has grown to 25 participating organizations (including Dutchess Community College, Sullivan and Ulster BOCES) and over 12,000 enrollee contracts and nearly 27,000 individuals covered. The total premiums for the year are over $277 million. The Altrnative PPO now handles the majority of contracts. This option has achieved signifigant growth and savings since inception.
