High School Practical Nursing I Course Description:

Practical Nursing I is a one year course approved by the New York State Education Department. This 540 hour program is taught half days over one year. This course is open to high school seniors who have successfully completed Introduction to Health Occupations. This course is available to young men and women who will be taught to function appropriately within various levels of patient care, encompassing supportive, preventative, curative and rehabilitative aspects of different health care settings throughout Dutchess County. The local community hospitals, nursing homes and state hospitals are used for clinical patient experiences. Upon successful completion of the program the Practical Nurse I student is eligible for entry into the Practical Nursing II course the following academic year as an adult learner. The Adult Practical Nursing program is eligible for financial aid.
