Some career possibilities available to P-TECH graduates include: electrical technicians and technologists, electrical and electronics drafters, electrical and electronic engineering technologists, electrical and electronic equipment assemblers and electrical and electronics repairers of commercial and industrial equipment.
Electrical technicians do hands-on work using various equipment. In the Hudson Valley region the following types of companies hire technicians:
- Utilities (Central Hudson, Con Edison, NYSEG)
- Manufacturing (OnSemi, Solid State Cooling Systems, James L. Taylor Manufacturing, Metal Container Corp.)
- Distribution (The Gap Distribution Center)
- Transportation (Metro-North, Long Island Railroad)
- Security Systems (Doyle Security)
Students will leave the program with the ability to install, repair and maintain various systems; diagnose and troubleshoot various systems; and research, analyze and interpret technical information.
Starting salary: Approximately $25/hr. rising to about $30 within a few years.
Future salary: Salaries of more than $100,000 per year can be obtained with additional years of experience.
