Dutchess BOCES Career and Technical Institute counselors, staff and students participated in a Skilled Trades Fair hosted by Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, New York State Sen. Michelle Hinchey and the Hyde Park Central School District.
Held at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, the goal of the fair was to provide students and young adults the opportunity to learn more about different career paths that are available close to home in the Hudson Valley. Dutchess BOCES joined representatives from various trades at the event to answer questions and learn about opportunities.
“Our goal at these events is to spark passion and curiosity in students by showcasing the endless possibilities CTI has to offer,” guidance counselor Deanna Pillius said. “It was especially heartwarming to meet several parents who graduated from our school now proudly supporting their children in exploring their pathways to success.”
Work-based learning coordinator Sharon Myers said she was able to “connect with current industry partners and meet new business leaders to increase the opportunities for CTI students in the coming year.”
“There’s no one-size-fits-all all approach when it comes to determining your future, and ensuring our students know all the career options available to them is a top priority,” Serino said. “The Hudson Valley is home to so many unique opportunities, including those in the trades.”
This is the third time Hyde Park hosted the event. Hyde Park Superintendent Dr. Pedro Roman said the event not only provides information on career opportunities to attendees but also supports local businesses in their search for qualified employees.
“This event represents a mutually beneficial endeavor for all involved,” he said.
