Join the Dutchess County School Library Diversity PLN as we explore approaches to increasing equity in our library programs.

Diversity Audits | March 25, 2020
This session will include a group screening and discussion of the recorded webinar, Expanding Our Horizons: Building Diverse Collections in School Libraries with Dr. April Dawkins from UNC Greensboro. Dr. Dawkins lays out the steps to help you develop a collection where students see themselves.

Auditing Book Orders | April 29, 2020 | Jaclyn Heeney, Librarian, Arlington High School
Are you interested in collection auditing but would like to start with something smaller? By auditing one book order, you will be able to take all the steps involved in auditing a full collection, but on a manageable scale. Whether or not you have done a formal collection audit, this workshop will provide resources and methods for increasing diversity in your collection.

Promoting Your Collection | May 13, 2020 | Melinda Grey, Librarian, Overlook Primary School
Good intentions are not enough! We need to take meaningful action. The library collection audit is only one piece. Collection development is a work in progress, striving to adjust the ordering process and then making sure our patrons know of newly acquired diverse materials.

Assessing Diverse Titles | June 3, 2020 | Lucy Miller, Librarian, Arlington High School
As we develop diverse collections, it’s important to examine old favorites and assess new additions to understand the messages they send. We’ll join together to discuss several readings and to analyze some of the books we find on our shelves and share with our students.
