The team of Johan Melcher Vasquez, Madison Orellano and Jordan Jiang took first place in Culinary Quiz Bowl

Six Dutchess BOCES Career and Technical Institute students placed in the SkillsUSA New York Area 4 Regional competition held over the past two weekends at different locations.

  • Noah Browne, a senior, took first place in Advertising Design and second place in T-Shirt Design.
  • Derrick Maxwell, a junior in the Welding and Fabrication program, took first place in Job Demo 1.
  • The team of juniors Johan Melcher Vasquez and Madison Orellano and senior Jordan Jiang took first place in Culinary Quiz Bowl.
  • Jasmine Sanchez a senior, took second place in Cosmetology Senior.

A total of 32 CTI students participated in the competitions.
“I’m proud to announce we had our best showing in quite some time at the SkillsUSA Regional competition,” Principal Nick Millas said.  “Our students did an amazing job and represented our program very well.”
All of the students who placed are moving on to the state competition which is scheduled for April 23-25 at the state fairgrounds in Syracuse, CTI's SkillsUSA adviser Sharon Myers said.
“These enthusiastic young professionals are honing their skills and becoming more well-rounded as career and technical education future leaders. They have put in a lot of hard work and it is paying off for them. We are looking forward to seeing the entire group of young professionals excel at states,” she said.
