Staff at Dutchess BOCES’ Salt Point Center (SPC) welcomed students and their families to showcase what students are learning and what goes on in their daily routines during the annual open house.
Families heard from their young students’ teachers about curriculum highlights, what a daily schedule looks like, program goals and upcoming events, such as the annual Halloween parade for which students are encouraged to dress up. Service counseling, occupational and physical therapies and speech providers also shared updates on how the services have helped students succeed.
Principal Melissa Murphy said she appreciated the dedication and professionalism staff showed at the open house, reflecting the high standards upheld at SPC and the strong sense of community they built with students and their families. Additionally, she heard from families who expressed how supported and welcomed they felt during the Sept. 30 event.
Dennis Remsburger’s daughter Josie is in Amanda Byrnes’ class and he could not be happier to see her learning so much and having fun under the guidance of a great teacher. “I’m glad to hear she’s happy and doing well,” Remsburger said. “She’s growing and developing and that’s all you can ask for.”
Jeanine Lawrence appreciated seeing how her daughter Venetia and her classmates have their own workspace in Christie Campanaro’s classroom and appreciates how promptly Campanaro replies to emails. Lawrence most looks forward to her daughter’s continuing educational growth at SPC. “Everything looks awesome,” Lawrence said. “I’ve seen a lot of changes in Venetia since she started and it’s been all positive.”
