Students in the Career & Technical Institute’s (CTI) Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management program were busy Oct. 13 and 14 baking a variety of treats for Dutchess BOCES’ Board of Trustees in honor of School Board Recognition Week Oct. 12 to 16.
First and second-year students in Chef Teachers Amanda Scoca’s and Gabriel Ross’ classes prepared, baked and presented an assortment of treats including pecan bars, apple turnovers, pumpkin muffins and French Sablé cookies with chocolate centers, to District Superintendent Dr. Jodi DeLucia, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Sal Contes Jr. and Board Clerk Nancy Melilli ahead of the board’s monthly meeting on Oct. 14.
DeLucia explained that the board members volunteer their time to serve and thanked the students for preparing the treats for them.
“It makes us so happy when we get to showcase your skills. Food is everyone’s love language. We appreciate you all!”
Second-year Culinary student Mason Waldbillig, who studies in Ross’ class, appreciates getting opportunities to practice his culinary skills and seeing people enjoy the dishes he prepares.
“It makes me feel good that this goes out to very important people and they get to enjoy the things we make,” Waldbillig said. “I’m really fortunate to have the help from Chef Ross and BOCES to really help me out and give me this opportunity to do what I love.”
During the meeting, everyone had a chance to taste the students’ creations, and each board member went home with their own box of treats. DeLucia thanked the board for its time and efforts to support students, teachers and BOCES’ component districts.
“I hope you enjoy this token of appreciation,” DeLucia said to the board members. “You put in so much time and focus and provide us with the support and resources that we need as we keep moving forward on this journey of innovation, partnership and growth.”
