The Facilities and Operations team spent winter recess making improvements at Salt Point Center and the Career and Technical Institute.
At SPC, they worked with Ashley Mechanical on a project to update elements of the heating system. They replaced branch piping to classrooms in hallway A and replaced unit ventilator pipes in select classrooms.
“We noticed we were going to have some issues so we proactively scheduled time with Ashley Mechanical to prevent those issues in the heating system at SPC,” Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations Gregg Caruso said.
They also replaced the plaster ceiling in an office with an acoustical drop ceiling and added new lighting to make way for air conditioning in an office to provide access for air conditioning and created access to the server closet by replacing the plaster ceiling with a drop ceiling to prepare it for installation of air conditioning. This is all part of the long-range plan to replace all plaster ceilings in the building.
On the Monday students returned from break, F&O staff oversaw vendors begin installation of new blue steel doors on classrooms after school hours. That project continues in the evenings.
At CTI, staff installed a grease trap in the Lower A kitchen, re-plumbed the ice machine and installed an access panel in the ceiling for future plumbing work that will be done. “We’re taking advantage of not having students in the classroom,” Caruso said.
