Students in CTI’s Security and Law morning program learned about crime scene investigation techniques Friday, Dec. 12, from Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office detectives Kurt Twaddell and Brian Wilber. They are part of the department’s Crime Scene Unit.
The presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the unit’s responsibilities including investigations into property crimes, assaults, accidents, fire scenes, missing persons, and fatalities. During the session, the detectives explained various evidence collection methodologies and the strict protocols required to maintain forensic integrity. They also demonstrated some of the advanced technology they use, including drones and laser data mapping equipment for high-precision scene reconstruction and measurement.
The visit concluded with an interactive Q&A session, offering students a valuable opportunity to learn directly from active-duty investigators.
