Students will be sliding into the 2025-26 school year with a brand new playground. Set to be completed in time for students’ arrival, the more than 5,500 square feet area has one mission: ensuring every child can participate in the fun. The new playground has been thoughtfully designed with student desires and inclusivity in mind. SPC Principal Melissa Murphy shared that she sought direct input from the true recess experts when they were designing the new space. “Students shared that their favorite part of our playground was the swings, so we made sure the new playground had more swings available for all the students to enjoy.” The playground will feature eight swings that meet different accessibility needs, including a wheelchair accessible swing. A colorful musical play area will bring out the students’ inner rock stars with drums, a xylophone, and more.

There will be three new slides: a twisty spiral, a tunnel, and a double slide (perfect for racing friends)! Students will have a variety of sensory-rich structures scattered throughout the playground, creating a space to engage children of all abilities and one that fosters creativity, social interaction and active play.

Finally, a poured-in-place rubber flooring will be installed to ensure safety and create a space that is easy for all to navigate.

“I think that coming back to something new will make the students feel very special,” Murphy shared. “Every aspect was designed with their needs and wants in mind. We’re so excited for them to see it.”

The playground was designed and installed by Backyard Recreation (Proscapes) of Lakewood, NJ.

In addition to the new playground, a new fence was installed. This fence, along with being a safety feature, provides extra protection against ticks by creating a barrier to wildlife.
