The Dutchess County BOCES Board of Education unanimously appointed Jason B. Schetelick as the new District Superintendent effective September 1, 2021 at its June 9 meeting.  Schetelick will replace the retiring District Superintendent, Dr. Richard Hooley who has served in the position since September 2015.

Mr. Schetelick has a strong background in technical education and workforce development.  He is currently the Deputy Superintendent and Executive Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in the Jersey City Public Schools where he has served since 2013. Prior to that, Schetelick was superintendent in Bloomfield, Barnegat, and Great Meadows, all in New Jersey.

In his current position, Schetelick developed an early college program allowing 125 students to graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree from partner Hudson County Community College. During his tenure, graduation subgroup rates increased by 13.2 percent and the high school graduation rate rose to the highest level in 30 years.

Schetelick is completing his doctorate in education from Walden University. He has earned two master’s degrees, one in instruction/curriculum and one in education administration, from Kean University.  He is a clinical supervisor for Grand Canyon University and a Curriculum & Instruction Specialist for Educational Testing Service.

“Mr. Schetelick inherits a capital project on the BOCES Salt Point Campus and opportunities for dynamic changes for the region,” said Dr. Hooley. “With new faces on the BOCES Board and in the administration, as well as a new president at SUNY Dutchess, Dutchess BOCES is poised for growth and continued success.”

Board President Edward L. McCormick said the Board was pleased that the search for a new superintendent remained on schedule, allowing for a smooth opening of the 2021-22 school year. “The entire board feels we have found a solid leader for Dutchess BOCES’ next chapter,” said McCormick.
