[PIC] BOCES Summer Scholar Students DIsplay Certificates

The annual Dutchess BOCES Summer Scholars concluded on Thursday, July 25 with a graduation ceremony and presentation. Nineteen students from districts across Dutchess County participated in the two-week residential program held at Dutchess Community College.

This year’s topic “Cybersecurity, Fake News, and the Assault on Truth,” was led by Professors Keith O’Neill, Matthew Murphy, and Dr. Richard Reitano.

Dr. Reitano urged students to remember they have an ability to make a difference. He quoted George Bernard Shaw: “Some men see things as they are, and say, why; I dream things as they never were, and say, why not.”

In addition to attending lectures and participating in discussions, students worked together on creating a book, and filming a video presentation that highlighted “Fake News.” Justin Brown, Video & Film instructor at the Career and Technical Institute, facilitated the development of the presentations.
