This year, 67 second-year students at the Career & Technical Institute (CTI) shared $28,000 from Dutchess BOCES’ partners, handed out during the Senior Scholarships & Awards Ceremony on June 4 in the large conference room.
Director of Career and Technical Education and Adult Education Nick Millas noted that the amount of money the industry partners donated is the largest ever in the history of the event, giving students even more of a reason to fill out the thank you cards provided with every award and scholarship.
CTI Principal Jason Lloyd told the students that no matter what path they choose, they are leaving CTI to make meaningful contributions to their communities and chosen trades, adding that the ceremony celebrated students’ excellence and growth.
“Each scholarship and award represents countless hours of your hard work, determination and commitment, it also reflects the support of your families, teachers, counselors and industry partners who have encouraged and guided you along the way,” Lloyd said. “Continue to pursue your goals with the same passion, professionalism and resilience that brought you here today.”
Mynor Ramos Ardon, who studied Trade Electric with Teacher Richard Petschko, was grateful to have received an award from Swift Electric for the work he did in class and looks forward to taking the skills he learned to T.Webber Plumbing. “I feel so happy about this,” Ramos Ardon said. “I’m so excited and grateful for Dutchess County BOCES.”
Juliette L. Wisniewski was the first student from the Esthetics program to receive an award at the ceremony. Her award came from Burmax, Inc., a wholesale provider of beauty supplies and student kits, which will help her as she continues to perfect her esthetics skills at West Virginia University.
“I love learning about facials … it’s very fun to learn,” Wisniewski said.
