Meet Jason Lloyd, CTI’s new principal. Lloyd comes to CTI from New York City Public Schools and brings more than 15 years of experience in education to his new role, along with a fresh and enthusiastic perspective.
Lloyd approaches Career and Technical Education emphasizing his own core values of community and service. From the beginning of the hiring process, he appreciated the community forward education happening at CTI through various partnerships and service opportunities, noting that he admires how the students are eager to take advantage of the wide variety of experiences available to them. “ Our students have a great opportunity here.”
Lloyd holds a master’s in educational leadership from Fordham University and a master’s in education with a focus on students with disabilities from Mercy College. He also completed a LEAP Apprentice certificate program in New York City, further strengthening his leadership foundation.
Lloyd describes his leadership style as a coaching-based approach, seeing CTI as one team working toward a shared goal. He takes the time to recognize the strengths of those around him and looks for ways to build on those strengths to get the work done well. He also understands that everyone has areas to grow, and he approaches these with encouragement and support—offering the guidance and resources people need to improve and feel confident in their work.
“We don’t know everything there is to know. We are all always learning,” said Lloyd. “I consider myself a lifelong learner. This is not traditional school as usual, and I’m ready to take it all in and learn all I can.”
Since joining CTI, Lloyd has been impressed by students and staff. He praised the dedication of CTI’s teachers and talented students.
“These are a great bunch of kids. I want our students to know that I believe in their potential and hold high expectations because I know they are capable of great things. I approach my role as principal as a coach and partner in learning—someone who will encourage students and teachers, challenge them to grow, and support them along the way,” he said.
Lloyd made this observation about his teachers: “The teachers are amazing, they’re friendly and down to earth…you can tell they are genuinely passionate about being here.”
Outside of school, Lloyd enjoys collecting sneakers, spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle.
