[PIC] Special Olympics LogoEight Dutchess BOCES students took to the court at Marist College on April 2nd to compete in a Special Olympics basketball skills events.  The competition included dribbling, passing, and shooting baskets.  This was the third year student athletes got to shine in the spotlight and hear the support of a cheering crowd.

Alan Bishop, Olivia Cherry, Lorenzo Cortez, Angel Cruz, Anna Davis, Angel Fox, Alexia Gomez, and Jadaylnn Lisanti, students from Salt Point Center (SPC) and the Pegasus class at CTI, enjoyed the fanfare of the medal ceremony and the unending support of their families and coaches.

BOCES staff members Margaret Brandon, Eric Hirsch, Karen Hansen, Jim Killian, Jenna Riccardi, Martha Schultz, Erin Scott, Maria Sita, Tracey Smith, Lisa Wilson, and Tara Urbanak are loyal Special Olympics coaches who worked with the students for months in order to prepare and improve their skills.

“Special Olympics provides our students with an opportunity to compete in sports, to be a part of the community and to develop life-long athletic and social skills,” said volunteer and SPC teacher Erin Scott. “We are fortunate to have the support of our principal and parents which allows our program to grow every year.”

Congratulations t the medal winners: Alan Bishop, 3rd place, Olivia Cherry, 2nd place, Lorenzo Cortez, 1st place, Angel Cruz, 2nd place, Anna Davis, 5th place, Angel Fox, 4th place, Alexia Gomez, 4th place, and Jadaylnn Lisanti, 4th place.
