Students from across the county have the opportunity to recover credits and to stay on track for graduation thanks to the establishment of a Dutchess BOCES Regional Summer School in partnership with the Hyde Park Central School District.

Nearly 200 students from five school districts are taking advantage of the summer program which is hosted by FDR High School from July 6 to August 16 and will culminate with the administration of 418 Regents examinations. “This is an exciting collaboration between BOCES and the Hyde Park School District. All of the schools and students participating are not only benefitting from the opportunity to reclaim credit, but many are also able to prep for an additional opportunity to pass a Regents exam or to raise their grade,” said Bill Ball, BOCES’ Director of Educational Programs. “With the participating districts providing transportation, and their ability to receive BOCES aid, more students are benefitting now than ever from a summer school opportunity.”

Students from schools Hyde Park, Pawling, Pine Plains, Red Hook, and Rhinebeck are participating. Instruction is being offered in algebra, earth science, economics, English 9-12, geometry, global studies 9 & 10, living environment, participation in government, physical education, and U.S. history.

“Many of our larger districts are able to satisfy the needs of their own students. We had an opportunity, because of our economy of scale, to create a program that some of our smaller partners would benefit from,” said Ball. “We hope for even greater participation next year.”
